2-Tank Scuba Diving Denarau - Certified Divers Mamanuca Reef and Salamander Wreck
Whitetip Marine Adventures runs the certified diver 2-tank trips out of Port Denarau Marina. Maximum 8 divers per trip (the operator’s own rule — they keep groups tight intentionally), all SSI-certified guides and divemasters, with boat captains holding MSAF certification.
This is a morning-focused operation: depart at 9:00am, two dives, back by 1:30–2:00pm. Clean, efficient, and leaves the afternoon free.

The dive sites
Mamanuca coral reefs (primary sites)
The two dives typically cover coral reef sites within the Mamanuca Island group. Site selection varies with weather and conditions. Whitetip uses a range across the group including outer reef walls, drift dives, coral garden bommies, and shallower sites suited to newer certified divers. The Mamanuca reefs hold warm, clear water year-round — water temperature stays 26–30°C — with hard and soft corals, reef fish, turtles, and occasional whitetip reef sharks.
The Salamander wreck
The MV Salamander was a 40-metre cruise ship purpose-sunk as an artificial reef and now lies at 26 metres. Covered in soft corals and anemones. Common sightings include moray eels, lionfish, puffer fish, coral trout, and resident reef fish that have colonised the wreck structure. It’s an accessible wreck — easy to dive inside under guide supervision — and not technically demanding.
Scheduling: the Salamander is past Treasure Island, slightly further than the standard Mamanuca reef sites. Whitetip schedules one designated wreck day per week, adjusted for weather — they don’t commit it to a fixed calendar day because conditions matter more than the date. If the wreck is a specific goal, message the operator before booking to find out which day is currently scheduled.
Non-certified companions
A useful detail: Whitetip also specialises in introductory diving for non-certified partners. If you’re a certified diver traveling with someone who isn’t, they can run both experience levels simultaneously from the same boat, with a dedicated instructor for introductory divers. This makes the trip workable for mixed groups.
What to bring
- Dive certification card (or digital proof via PADI/SSI app)
- Logbook if you have one
- Light layer for the boat ride back (wet + wind can feel cool)
- Reef-safe sunscreen
- Your own mask if you have a preferred fit (equipment provided if not)
Practical notes
Rusty divers: Whitetip is experienced with divers returning after a gap. Mention your last dive date when booking — good guides adjust the briefing and buddy management accordingly.
No-fly time: plan your next flight around the standard 12–24 hour post-dive surface interval guidelines (longer for multiple consecutive days of diving). Don’t schedule a dive on the morning of a departure flight.
Sunday scheduling: Fiji diving culture means Sundays can sometimes be quieter for scheduling — confirm availability if Sunday is your preferred day.

FAQs
How many people is “small group”?
A hard maximum of 8 divers per trip, plus the guide. This is significantly smaller than many dive operations in the region and is genuinely noticeable underwater — the guide can actually watch you rather than herding a crowd.
Can I request specific sites?
You can express preferences. Final site selection depends on conditions on the day — currents, visibility, and what’s accessible. The operator has multiple sites and typically makes the call morning-of.
Is the Salamander worth it?
It’s a good wreck dive — soft coral cover is attractive, fish life is solid, and the depth (26m) gives divers meaningful bottom time. It’s not a dramatic penetration dive, but consistently reviewed positively.
Operated by Whitetip Marine Adventures. Meet at their booth (3rd on left) inside Port Denarau Passenger Terminal by 8:30am. Departs 9:00am. Maximum 8 divers. Wreck day scheduled weekly — confirm with operator if that’s your goal.
