Round the Island Viti Levu Day Tour - Natadola, Suva, Coral Coast and North Coast Loop
Viti Levu is 146km wide and almost entirely circumnavigable on sealed road. This tour does exactly that — a full clockwise loop of the island from Nadi, taking 12–13 hours and covering the Coral Coast, Suva, the Kings Road through the north, and back to Nadi. It’s as much a geography and culture lesson as it is a sightseeing day.
This is not a gentle pace. It’s a long day of driving with short stops and a genuine commitment to seeing how different Fiji feels as you move from the dry west coast to the lush Coral Coast, into Suva, and through the agricultural north.

The route
Morning: Nadi → Natadola → Coral Coast
Natadola Beach is the first scheduled stop — one of the best swimming beaches on the Viti Levu mainland, with clear water and a shallow reef shelf. Many itineraries allow 15–20 minutes, which is enough for photos and a quick walk on the sand but not a long swim. If Natadola is a priority for you, this tour’s timing isn’t ideal — consider the dedicated Natadola beach tour instead.
The Queens Road continues southeast through the Coral Coast: an 80km stretch of beaches, fringing reef, resort accommodation, and panoramic headland views. The road runs between richly vegetated hillsides and the ocean. Your guide typically narrates the resort areas, the significance of the reef systems offshore, and the communities you pass through.
Sigatoka: the drive passes through the Sigatoka area (sand dunes briefly visible from the road, Sigatoka town). Some itineraries include a brief stop.
Midday: Pacific Harbour → Suva
Pacific Harbour — brief stop, sometimes including the Arts Village precinct. Known as the “adventure capital of Fiji” for its diving, surfing, and whitewater operations — worth seeing even at speed to understand the Coral Coast’s character changes from resort-lined coast to more rugged adventure territory.
Suva is the longest single stop — typically about an hour. The capital is genuinely interesting: dense, multicultural, and unlike anywhere on the tourist strip. Common Suva activities within the stop: the Municipal Market (one of the best produce markets in Fiji), the waterfront and harbour area, Victoria Parade historic buildings, or a quick visit to the Fiji Museum if time allows.
Lunch in Suva: not included. Your guide will typically have recommendations for local cafés and restaurants in the central business district. Budget FJD $15–25 for a good sit-down meal.
Afternoon: North coast (Kings Road)
After Suva the route switches to the Kings Road (northern highway), which is a completely different face of Viti Levu from the Coral Coast: wider agricultural valleys, sugar cane country, the Ba River lowlands, and a more rural, unhurried feel.
Notable points along the Kings Road:
Nausori and Korovou areas — market towns and agricultural communities.
Tailevu/roadside waterfall — some itineraries include a brief photo stop at a roadside waterfall in this area. Conditions and timing affect whether this is feasible.
Rakiraki — sometimes called the “Fiji Water country,” as the famous Fiji Water source is in this area. Some guides make a brief stop for context.
Ba — Fiji’s football-mad town, heavily Indo-Fijian, with a distinctive energy compared to the Fijian-majority communities elsewhere on the loop.
Lautoka — Fiji’s second city: sugar mills, waterfront, and a brief pass-through or stop depending on timing before the final leg back to Nadi.
Honest assessment of the format
The round-island loop is a day of short stops and long drives, not a day of deep engagement with any single place. It’s satisfying for guests who want to understand the scale and diversity of Viti Levu — who want to know what lies between their resort and Suva, what the north coast looks like, how the island changes character. It’s less satisfying for guests who want meaningful time at any particular location.
The best round-island days happen with a guide who makes the driving time interesting — narrating the communities, answering questions, and helping guests understand what the landscape means. The long drive between stops is unavoidable; a good guide makes it part of the content rather than dead time.
Motion sickness: this is a lot of driving, with some hilly, winding sections. Take medication before departure if you’re susceptible.

FAQs
Is this tour right for families with young children?
The 12–13 hour duration is challenging for young children. Families with children under 8–10 often find shorter Coral Coast or Nadi area half-day tours better suited. The round-island loop is better for adults and older children who find driving interesting.
Can I request extra time at Natadola?
The loop’s timing doesn’t easily accommodate extended stops — adding time at Natadola means reducing time elsewhere. If Natadola swimming is a priority, consider the dedicated Sigatoka Sand Dunes and Natadola Beach tour instead.
Full day — approximately 12–13 hours including pickups. Lunch not included; buy in Suva. Take motion sickness medication before departure for winding sections of the road.
